Our Workshops
We offer four engaging, hands-on photography workshops, each designed to inspire creativity and connect students with the natural world.
Elements of Design
Designed for Grades 3–8, this workshop combines an interactive photography lesson with hands-on outdoor exploration, nature awareness activities, and creative challenges. Students learn camera skills, practice in a nearby natural area, edit their photos, and share their best shots in a celebratory end-of-day slideshow.
Principles of Design
Geared to Grades 7–11 students or grades 3-6 who have completed the Elements of Design workshop, this program blends an interactive photography lesson with hands-on outdoor exploration, composition practice, and creative activities. Students learn camera skills, capture images in a nearby natural area, edit their photos, and share their best shots in an end-of-day slideshow, leaving with both technical skills and a deeper connection to nature.
Macro Photography
Aimed at Grades 9–11 students or grades 3-8 who have completed the Elements and Principles of Design workshops, this program focuses on mastering macro photography techniques. Students practice close-up photography indoors before heading outside to capture detailed shots in nature, then edit their images and share their best work in an end-of-day slideshow, building both technical skill and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Indigenous Elements of Design
Intended for Grades 3–11 classes interested in learning about Indigenous photographers, this workshop blends photography skills with cultural perspectives. Students explore the Elements of Design through an Indigenous lens, discover the work of Indigenous artists, and create their own nature-inspired images that reflect both creative expression and respect for the land.

What Teachers Are Saying
-
“A fantastic program. It's amazing to see the students in awe of the patterns and beauty of nature. Thanks for helping them focus on nature!”
Mirella
-
“Exceptionally well organized and the leaders were excellent. It was very empowering for the students and each student experienced success with their abilities (both photography and finding beauty in nature). I loved how it got the students outdoors! They really enjoyed the scavenger hunt, the nature sculptures, and photo editing as well.”
Sarah-Jane
-
“11/10. It is a well-organized, student-geared, and motivational workshop. The instructor explains the elements so the students understand and she moves along at a pace that keeps them challenged and interested. The students are kept focused and stay engaged the entire day. In the end, the students were excited about nature and photography and what they achieved.”
Colleen
-
“The appreciation and love for the arts is so necessary to allow a child to explore his/her own strengths fully. It is my belief that by giving children the experience to explore the arts leads to more well-balanced, intelligent adults. Thank you Focus on Nature for a truly wonderful experience for my students.”
