Inspiring youth to explore and connect with nature through photography
Focus on Nature is a registered charity operating in Southern Ontario that inspires young people to explore and connect with nature through photography. We conduct workshops in schools and day camps in the summer and during March Break.
We envision a world where our connections to nature create a healthy, flourishing planet. We see a critical role for the arts in fostering these connections.
The particular value of photography in enhancing the child-nature connection is its relevance to today’s digitally savvy youth, its capacity to enhance the excitement of nature experiences, and the opportunities it allows for sharing both nature appreciation and creative expression with others.
“The beauty of photography is being able to pay attention to the particularity of nature. Noticing nature enriches your life and perhaps motivates you to preserve and protect it. Focus on Nature encourages just this.”

New 2026 Calendar and Poetry Book
Student photographers from Focus on Nature were excited to work in partnership with the Benjamin Project, a non-profit initiative educating children on responsible pet ownership and animal stewardship, and One Thousand Trees, a Guelph-based publishing company whose mandate is empowerment through storytelling and connection, on two separate projects in 2025.
Stunning photographs of various animals were featured in the 2026 Benjamin Project fundraising calendar and A Window to Your Soul, in which 12 poets wrote a poem in response to a photograph they randomly selected.
Place your order for either the calendar, the poetry book, or both with us by filling out this form. Calendars are $15.00, and the poetry book is $10.00 plus shipping. The order form is available until November 14th, 2025; after that, we cannot guarantee you will receive your items before December 25th, 2025.
